Few people know that the Azores are home to the only industrial tea plantations in Europe.
On São Miguel Island, historic producers like Gorreana Tea Plantation and Chá Porto Formoso have cultivated tea since the 19th century. Thanks to the island’s volcanic soil, humid subtropical climate, and pure Atlantic air, Azorean tea develops a character that is fresh, smooth, and naturally rich.
Unlike many large global producers, Azorean tea is grown without heavy pesticides, benefiting from the island’s isolated ecosystem.
This makes tea from São Miguel not only rare — but genuinely special.
